MMC confined space and high ropes team carried out surveys across 10 bridges and culverts on the Isle of Wight for Ringway Island Roads over a three week period as part of their maintenance and repairs programme.
The survey works involved checking for scour and mortar wear, checking for any lose blocks, confirming measurements including; width of crown and 3-point measurements on topside and reporting these back to Ringway Island Roads appointed surveyor, clearing blockages and taking video and still photos of each site.
Ringway Island Roads had to implement some partial and full road closures in order for the MMC team to access the survey sites.
The confined space works saw the MMC team working under bridges and in culverts, some of which were 90-100m in length. Where access was difficult MMC used their high ropes team to carry out the works.
The St. Cross Mill site in Newport, also required the MMC dive team to operate, due to the water depth which was high due to the tide and heavy rainwater. The MMC confined space and high ropes team carried out and completed the inspection survey works on time and on budget.
