There were only 110 Fifer motor sailors built by the 200 year old Miller Shipyard in Scotland. Sadly for one of Chichester Harbour's Fifers, Boomerang A, the Christmas period was spent underwater having quickly sunk on her mooring just before the festive break.
After the Harbour Patrol had ensured she was no danger to navigation or leaking any pollutant, an isolated danger mark was placed nearby marking the submerged vessel. A Local Notice to Mariners was also issued.
MMC Diving Services surveyed her in chilly conditions and low visibility. They then formulated a plan to right her. Once she was upright they affixed additional inflation bags to gently re-float her - all done by feel in zero visibility below water.
Working in conjunction with Hayling Yacht Company, the re-floating operation was a success. When she was pumped out she was towed to their yard for lifting, cleaning and any refitting work.
Not the best way to spend Christmas for Boomerang A but we are sure she'll have a happier New Year ahead.
