Cowes Yacht Haven is at the heart of Cowes on the Isle of Wight. There are a number of resident berth holders and many visiting yachtsmen that come here for the unique setting and its famous marine events. The Yacht Haven in Cowes on the IOW remains one of the most popular sailing destinations on the South Coast. It is protected by a block-built sea wall.
Occasionally the blocks weighing 2.5 tonnes each stick out into the river causing a hazard to passing traffic, this occurs when one of their retaining brackets brake after a storm, on occasions the entire blocks have just sheared off both retaining brackets and fallen off on to the seabed.
With regular passing ferries amongst the other busy water traffic creating swell and squash, it was I.O.W based divers in Cowes MMC diving services whom ruled out the use of a barge or lift bags, MMC designed and fabricated a custom built lift consisting of two davit arms secured to the top of the stable sea wall, this is operated by two 3 ton chain-pulls on each davit to lift the blocks up and into position safely without a floating barge bobbing up and down risking entrapment of fingers between the blocks or an uncontrollable lift from lift bags in mid water with the passing traffic.
Once the blocks were lifted into position our onsite team fabricating new custom brackets and welding them back in place.
Our diving access engineers and confined space team are on standby 24 hours a day 7 days a week & 365 days a year.
