MMC Diving Services won the tender to construct a temporary cofferdam, dewater and undertake repair works to Brocks Copse in Whippingham on the Isle of Wight.
MMC’s custom cofferdam design helped limit the environmental impact of noise and fumes from over pumping, rather than the continuous running of pumps 24 hours a day during any water build up. Our design has x2 100m x12 inch hoses running through the structure from the upstream dam through to the downstream dam, allowing a water by-pass with no noise or fumes. This saves time and money on plant and personnel, whilst environmentally allowing eels and fish to pass unhindered.
Subsurface structural works were unknown prior to this dewatering and had not been properly surveyed due to the black deep water conditions of the river, once the structure was dry Island Road engineers undertook a survey and confirmed the subsurface works required which included brick replacement, crack stitching, radial pinning and extensive repointing works.
Even with the extra works packages, these works were completed on time making a significant cost saving for our client.
