Bledington Old Mill has been redundant for many years, the water has been diverted through a single span arch beneath the main road. Over time this has resulted in large areas of scour voids behind the bridge abutment faces and beneath the invert at top of the downstream southern weir.
Due to the sheer volume and speed of the localised water in this river, MMC Divers Installed a temporary water dam to divert the water back through the old mill and create a dry working area within the bridge.
Once the water was diverted the bridge could then be assessed in the dry by the Atkins engineer to check for further areas to be repaired.
Our teams were then able to drill, resin and fix steel mesh into the repairs, install sections of shuttering and fill with concrete in a relatively dry area.
The old stone wingwalls were repaired and re-pointed using a lime-based grout.
