A survey on an old pipe in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight was programmed in to be surveyed over the Christmas period, however due to the extreme winter storms and flooding, visibility didn't allow suitable conditions for divers until June, six months later! MMC Divers undertook the survey in Ventnor, on the South of the Isle of Wight.
Established in 1981, IT Power is a World leading renewable energy consultancy firm offering technical, engineering and advisory services to public and private sector clients in all aspects of sustainable energy. There global coverage and staff of international experts in the fields of renewable energy and climate change make for a first choice for any renewable energy project.
MMC Divers were subcontracted to survey the inside of the Ventnor pipe, with a pipe size of just 0.5 meter and a distance of 100 meters. The pipe was too tight to put a diver inside, and a ROV was out the question due to the lack of water half way up. So MMC fabricated a steel skate for the diver to place inside the pipe from the seaward end. The skate had an HD Camara and light mounted on the end via an umbilical which linked to a recording monitor on the surface, and 100 meters of drain rods were used to guide the skate inside the pipe.
