A steel constructed thermal store tank used for storing 5,600m3 of water, it is stored at a temperature approximately 92°c and is used to supply heat to the adjacent glasshouses owned and operated by APS Salads.. The tank is 24,400mm diameter, with a sloping roof at a height of 11,550mm to the eave of the roof from floor level.
This project involved the careful planning and consideration around difficult access and confined space while working at height, emergency evacuation procedures and planning to be able to drain the tank in the event of a diver becoming trapped. MMC constructed a scaffolding access platform and x2 diver recovery methods to enable the works to take place, calculations were made with the fire brigade should the tank require draining in an emergency.
Our inspection divers undertook the leak detection using MPI and coloured dye, once the leak was found this was welded up using our underwater coded welders, these works were completed on time in budget saving time and money for our client.
