The aim of the project was to identify 28 x buried anomalies at the site of the future Gull Wing Bridge in Lowestoft inner harbour prior to construction.
MMC Divers supplied a portable surface supplied dive system, an access ladder with a diving supervisor and a full surface supplied dive team to assist EODEX leading the investigation works with 28 potential targets, These investigation works were undertaken from a spud legged multicat barge positioned upstream of the known target. Each target had a weighted shot line positioned under the guidance of the specialist surveyor.
The diver left surface descending down the shot line with a hand-held locator to survey the area using an underwater Aquascan DX-300 diver hand-held magnetometer which is capable of locating ferrous UXO to a depth of 1-2m below the seabed (depending on size of munition). Detected targets were safely excavated using the diver-held non-metallic airlift and lance. Once the target had been uncovered, the EOD diver was deployed to confirm the identity of the Individual targets. All information will be gathered, recorded and presented in the final report.
All diving and excavation works were carefully monitored by the a Level 8B1 qualified advanced maritime explosives ordnance disposal supervisor, and EOD qualified divers.
These works were completed ahead of the program saving valuable time and money for our client.
